The DC Beer team is back once again with our Beer of the Month (BotM), our collaboration highlighting beer available at Arlington’s The Brew Shop. This month is time to go hazy! Hop heads and craft beer enthusiasts along the east coast and beyond are likely familiar with The Veil out of Richmond, Virginia, but how familiar are you with their latest iteration of Crucial Crucial Shredder Shredder (CCSS)? This beer is the 5.5% alcohol by volume double dry-hopped fusion dance between two flagships from The Veil, Master Shredder IPA and Crucial Crucial Taunt Taunt Double IPA. Those extra words mean it’s double dry-hopped, by the way.
Autumn is upon the DMV in true form; consumers may be targeting darker and heavier styles to stay warm and enjoy the chilly weather, but I’d caution against making the pivot without trying this beer. Crucial Crucial Shredder Shredder comes in at an easy 5.5%. Let the duo of Citra and Amarillo hops cleanse you of the market’s recent rush of Oktoberfest styles. Starting with dank hop aromatics, its first sip comes across as fresh orange peel and grapefruit, creating a semi-sweet note before finishing dry. The Veil also has tasting notes: “The DDH mashup of two of our house hoppy beers — Crucial Taunt and Master Shredder. Ripping impressions of sweet marshmallow candy, orange, and honeysuckle.” A hoppy, refreshing, and sessionable beer that pairs well with numerous fall activities, from beers around the fire pit to yard work and more.
Being a hop head and IPA hunter, there are no shortages of available IPAs in and around the DC area, yet I must stress all IPAs are NOT created equal. The ever-changing evolution of IPAs lead to unique variants and some beers that frankly shine better than others depending on the weather, events of the day, or our shifting pallets. Crucial Crucial Shredder Shredder is shining this November, though and has something for everyone, showing off the talented brewers at The Veil.
