Churchkey holds its 5th DC Total Tap Takeover for DC Beer Week

One of the highlights of DC Beer Week is walking into Churchkey during their Washington, DC Total Tap Takeover. Fifty drafts and five cask lines, all pouring beer made in DC, which is something that wasn’t possible until a few years ago. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the event, and previous takeovers have been a celebration of all things DC beer, with brewers and brewery representatives mingling with fans. On Tuesday, September 10th, we get to do it all over again.

Highlights of this year’s DC Total Tap Takeover include Red Bear and Valor beers being poured outside their brewpubs for the first time, though Valor does have a pop-up location at Union Market, and a slew of barrel-aged goodies such as Bluejacket’s Fantasy Camp imperial stout and a vertical of Right Proper’s Baron Corvo. As for me, I’ll be crushing a cask of District ChopHouse Oatmeal Stout.

We asked Neighborhood Restaurant Group Beer Director Greg Engert what he was most excited about. “We are excited to welcome two new DC breweries, Red Bear and Valor, to our now fifth annual DC total tap takeover,” he wrote. “Speaking of growth, our old friends in the scene are consistently innovating and we will have a slew of new selections from the likes of DC Brau (Cross Quarter Days, a barrel-aged imperial stout collaboration with Jameson) and Atlas (The Shape of Funk to Come, a complex sour red ale blend). Don’t miss the DCBW Solidarity Beer collaboration this year either – it is a vibrant Kellerbier that’s perfect for late summer drinking.”

Sure, you could take a tour of DC breweries one weekend, and we think you should, but here those breweries are all in one place. Flagships, rarities, one-offs, casks, and the people who brewed them in a celebratory atmosphere; all at Churchkey on Tuesday the 10th starting at 4 PM.
