Saturday, May 4th is the twenty-second anniversary of National Homebrew Day, and the American Homebrewers Association is celebrating with a Big Brew. In the District, head over to 3 Stars Brewing, which is home to DC’s only homebrew shop. Festivities start at 9 am, with demonstrations, a homebrew bottle share, raffles, and giveaways. And yes, there will be at least one food truck on site, plus 3 Stars’ beer in the afternoon.
Live in Maryland or Virginia? Worry not. There’s also a Fairwinds Brewing wort share, and Maryland Homebrew has an event, too.

WHAT: The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) will partner with over 300 breweries, homebrew shops, and beer clubs around the world on May 4 for the 22nd annual celebration of Big Brew. Held annually on the first Saturday of May in honor of National Homebrew Day, Big Brew is the largest annual gathering of homebrewers with an anticipated attendance of over 5,000 people.
Each Big Brew site is unique, but all of them will feature brewing demonstrations, and opportunities to learn about the greatest hobby in the world – homebrewing!
This year’s official Big Brew recipes are the TransAtlantic Blonde Ale from Simple Homebrewing (the upcoming Brewers Publications title) and Battlecow Galacticose New England IPA from Providence Brewing Company (Providence, R.I. is the site of AHA Homebrew Con June 27-29, 2019). Recipes and brewing instructions can be found online.
