Red Bear Brewing Company is likely to become the next brewery in DC when it opens sometime next year. Construction began last week on the NoMa site, which is situated next to the REI on 3rd Street NE.

Red Bear's site is approximately 7,000 square feet and will encompass a brewery, kitchen, taproom, and event space.

"We will be able to pack in up to 300 thirsty craft beer patrons, board game enthusiasts, drag queens, NoMa locals, and happy-hour hunters," co-founder Bryan Van Den Oever said via press release. Van Den Oever joins Cameron Raspet and Simon Bee as the leadership team behind the west coast-inspired brewery. (The co-founders relocated from Seattle to DC in order to open Red Bear.)

The press release notes that Red Bear is "the first fully gay-owned brewery in the city" and "expects to bring fierce flavors and bold brews for everyone to enjoy."

Red Bear and Hellbender Brewing Company will release a collab guava berry gose on Saturday, September 8 at Hellbender (5788 2nd Street NE). "This sour beer features hundreds of pounds of guava and raspberries with a subtle touch of French Sel Gris Sea Salt and coriander to add the right amount of salinity and spice to accent the sourness and fruit flavors," their newsletter notes.

Fingers crossed for a surprise-free buildout for the Red Bear team!
