DC Beer Week is somehow 10 years old already. It's hard to believe, but the celebration of suds in the DC metro area is hitting double digits from August 19-26. This year's event kicks off with an inaugural Lager Fest that will be held at City Winery DC in Ivy City. The event runs from 1-5pm and "will bring together more than 30 craft breweries for an afternoon of refreshing lager style beers, pilsners, and related summer favorites, including hard-to-find rare brews. The event will also feature live music from some of your favorite local bands." Tickets are $40 and include a complimentary DC Brewer's Guild tasting glass with unlimited pours of beer from participating breweries. Food will be available a la carte.

Speaking of lagers, the Solidarity Beer for 2018 is a pilsner. Each year, area brewers come together to brew a beer that's released during DC Beer Week. This year's is "a German Style Pilsner sponsored by Atlas Brew Works!  According to Atlas Head Brewer Daniel Vilarrubi, "the beer features soft hop bitterness, a light body, and melon and floral hop aromas, at 5% ABV."  This year nine area brewers were involved in the brewing or contributed materials to the beer.

DC Beer Week puts hundreds of events on our calendar each year, and this year they're going with a "Spotlight" system that will, well, spotlight two events a night. Be sure to check our calendar as more details about these events rolls out, but for now we know that DC Brau, the Heurich House Museum & Brewmaster's Castle, Brewers on the Block [8/25], Port City Brewing Company, and Liquid Integrity are all involved.

Be sure to watch this space as more DC Bere Week 2018 events are announced, good luck to the planning committee in their efforts to make the decennial DCBW the best yet!
