Snallygaster, the beer festival held annually by the Neighborhood Restaurant Group, returns to the District on October 13. Tickets are on sale now. The festival, which has previously been held in various locations around the Navy Yard neighborhood, moves this year to Pennsylvania Avenue between 3rd and 6th Streets NW. The event, which is the largest single-day beer event in Washington, DC and which has grown into one of the most notable beer festivals in the U.S. promises over 350 beers from a wide slate of national and international brewers.
An email advertising the event promises that its new venue "allows us to greatly expand our footprint and provide for quicker access to all of the offerings – along with far more seating, shaded areas and restrooms."
There are two ticket packages currently available. The Kraken is the $40 general admission pass. It includes "1:30 PM admission (a $15 Value) and 30 food & drink tickets." Those who just have to get in ahead of everyone else to try some tasty tipples should opt for The Basilisk, which includes early entry at 12:00 PM for 1.5 hours of first access to all 350+ beers, exclusive VIP amenities, admission (again, a $15 value), and 30 food and drink tickets for $65.
Snallygaster serves as one of the largest fundraisers for Arcadia, the local nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a more equitable and sustainable local food system in the Washington, DC area. Snallygaster raised $50,000 last year, all of which went a long way toward funding their teaching farm, veteran's program, mobile markets and more, according to a press release.
Last year, we power ranked all of the beers at Snallygaster. No word on whether we'll do that again, but check out the list to see the caliber of brews that will be offered.
More info on the beers of Snallygaster will be released as the event approaches, we'll update this post as needed.
