DC Beer Week is starting to shape up. DCBeer's event pages are live (see the front page), and we'll be launching venue-specific pages over the weekend! Here are some of the heavy-hitting events for DCBW 2014. From a press release:
The 6th Annual DC Beer Week (DCBW) is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with sponsor-driven flagship events taking place at different venues around the region throughout the week of August 17 – 24, 2014. The official calendar of events, which will continue to grow as the week gets closer, went live on the DCBeerWeek.net website this week.
“This year’s Beer Week is more comprehensive and bigger than ever. The partnerships we have made in our first five years are resulting in some amazingly informative and fun events for year six,” says DCBW Co-creator and Chef Teddy Folkman. “In addition to restaurants, bars and breweries participating in this year’s DC Beer Week, we have a line up of educational events that will entice people from all walks of life.”
As part of a Gold-level DCBW sponsorship, organizations were able to reserve a day to host aflagship event at their venue or a location of their choice. The planned flagship events include:
Sunday, August 17 – Brewery Ommegang, Boulevard Brewery and The Odyssey present “The Official DC Beer Week Kick-Off Cruise” – Brewery Ommegang and Boulevard Brewery in conjunction with Odyssey Cruises have brought back one of DCBW’s hottest tickets. After a year off, The Odyssey will once again be the kick-off spot for DC Beer Week and will feature some amazing brews from these American craft brew staples. “As a DCBW committee, we have evaluated many times how to bring the craft beer cruise back to this festive week. We are excited to work with Odyssey Cruises once again. We find this to be the ideal way to kick off what looks to be the most dynamic DCBW to date,” says Steven Cardello, DCBW Board Member & Director of Sales-South at Duvel USA. The cruise will set sail from 600 Water St SW Washington DC 20024. Tickets will include unlimited beer samples, new food station menu, and DJ entertainment. Monday, August 18 – DC Brau’s 3rd Annual Crab Fest at Quarterdeck– DC Brau and the Quarterdeck are teaming up once again. Celebrate indigenous beer and these indigenous mid-Atlantic delicacies at the Quarterdeck Restaurant located at 1200 Fort Meyer Drive in Arlington, VA. Join Samuel Adams and the Washington City Paper to sample 30 unique styles of Samuel Adams beers paired with bites prepared by 30 of the DMV’s top chefs. The event will take place at Longview Gallery 1234 9th St NW, Washington, DC 20001 and tickets are $55 for general admission and $75 for early admission and special appearances. dcbeerweek Wednesday, August 20 – RFD’s Coast to Coast Tap Takeover – RFD in Chinatown is throwing an epic regional tap takeover, featuring $5 pints from more than 20 American craft breweries on all 45 of their draft lines that night starting at 4:00 PM. Breweries from all five of the country’s beer regions will be represented, including Abita, Sam Adams, Dogfish Head, New Belgium, Allagash, Starr Hill, Boulevard, Hardywood, Brooklyn Brewery, Ommegang, Anchor Brewing and Terrapin, to name a few. The address is 810 7th Street, NW and proceeds from the $5 cover charge go to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. events.html Thursday, August 21 – DC Beer Week Solidarity Session IPA Tasting at Gordon Biersch –Again this year, top DC-area breweries combined forces to create a collaborative brew called Solidarity. This Session IPA will be featured all over the city. Gordon Biersch’s Chinatown location will welcome folks from all over to taste this well thought-out IPA and will be joined by 10 other breweries. DC Brau, 3 Stars, Flying Dog, Full Tilt, Devils Backbone, Lost Rhino, Atlas, Blue Mountain, and Heritage Brewing will provide the beer along with food from some of the DC area’s best restaurants and music by the 19th Street Band. . Saturday, August 23 – Devils Backbone Total Tap Takeover and Pumpkin Hunter Release Party – Get your hands on 20 different DB drafts including the year's first batch of Pumpkin Hunter Pumpkin Ale. Come early to party with the Devils crew and get a shot to win tickets to The Festy Experience later this year. This event will take place at Meridian Pint at 3400 11th Street NW in DC. Sunday, August 24 – Brewers On The Block at Suburbia, Union Market – Come celebrate the end of DC Beer Week 2014 with Suburbia, Red Apron, and all of your favorite local breweries. We will be featuring beers from DC Brau, 3 Stars, Atlas Brew Works, Chocolate City, Lost Rhino, Mad Fox, and Port City as well as frozen slushees from Suburbia and hot dogs from Red Apron Butcher.
