#SAVOR Week 2014 Events: ChurchKey and Birch & Barley

SAVOR returns to DC May 9-10. The week before this big event promises plenty of great events in the DC area. Although we have day-by-day line-ups posted, it may also be helpful for the #DCBrews community to check out what some players that are going above and beyond will be offering. Here are the events for ChurchKey and Birch & Barley (2nd floor and 1st floor respectively, 1337 14th Street NW). For more of DCBeer's #SAVOR Week coverage, click here.

Monday, May 5 – 4pm
Rare 3 Fonteinen Hommage Bottle Pours at ChurchKey

Beginning right at 4 pm, ChurchKey will feature one of the absolute rarest brews we have had the pleasure of procuring in recent memory. As our doors open, we will be pouring Drie Fonteinen Hommage Vintage 2013–the uber-scarce and hugely anticipated Lambic aged with raspberries and cherries–from bottle in tasting pours! Do not miss the chance to taste this delicious ale from Armand Debelder, the mastermind behind Drie Fonteinen in Beersel, Belgium…only 5,000 bottles were produced, and the beer–in addition to being available in Belgium–has only been exported to the USA and Denmark!

Ultimate Funkwerks Beer & Food Experience at Birch & Barley – 7pm

One of the most exciting new American Craft Brewers, Funkwerks out of Fort Collins, Colorado, will be kicking off Savor Week 2014 with us at Birch & Barley on Monday, May 5th 2014! On this evening, Funkwerks Cofounder Brad Lincoln will join BBCK Beer Director Greg Engert in hosting what promises to be an unforgettable evening of craft beer and food. We will be pairing no fewer than nine delicious Funkwerks brews, each selected from their vault of rarities, with five courses of outstanding seasonal creations passionately crafted by our Executive Chef Kyle Bailey and Pastry Chef Tiffany MacIsaac.

This will be the first time that Funkwerks, the 2012 winner for Best Small Craft Brewery of the Year at GABF, has ever poured their Belgian-inspired ales in Washington, DC, and we can't think of a better way to taste some of the scarcest brews from their arsenal.

While the food portion of the menu is still being determined, we know that the following beers are being specially sent just for this dinner:
  • Funkwerks Raspberry Provincial
  • Funkwerks Saison de Mars
  • Funkwerks Brett Trois
  • Funkwerks Session Saison
  • Funkwerks Dark Prophet
