What you need to know: Revival Brewing Co., founded in 2010, will be making a return appearance to DC after pouring at the 2012 SAVOR event. Revival is contract brewed under agreement at Trinity Brewhouse in Providence, Rhode Island and at Cottrell Brewing LLC out of Pawcatuck, Connecticut. Revival’s Chief Brewing Officer Sean Larkin has been brewing for over 14 years between Trinity Brewpub and Revival Brewing, and also provides consulting advice to Narragansett Brewing. As Revival receives distribution primarily in Rhode Island, this is a rare opportunity to try two of their beers without taking the extended road trip.

Beer #1:  Double Black IPA (American-Style Black Ale / 8%)

In Their Own Words: “This Cascadian Dark Ale, otherwise known as our Double Black IPA, emerged stylistically from the Pacific North West. It has an IPA backbone with a 'special blend' of choice roasted malts combined with a hard hitting matchup of hops, knocking this beer into a new weight class. Dry hopped and unfiltered for maximum flavor and punch. Enjoy it with a trainer!”

Food Pairing: Paired with Beef Carpaccio on Walnut Toast

Our Thoughts: Revival Brewing’s Double Black IPA, winner of a Silver medal at the 2012 Great International Beer Festival, is one of the few returning beers from the 2012 SAVOR event in DC and will be one of three American Black Ale’s (Black IPAs) being served at SAVOR this year. Double Black IPA features Chinook and the lesser utilized Sorachi Ace hops, which is sure to provide a unique hop profile and tasting experience.

Beer #2:  Zeppelin (Hefeweizen / 5.5%)

In Their Own Words: “Made with malt from Weyermann and Hallertau hops from Germany, this classic Hefeweizen style unfiltered beer is light blonde in color and slightly hazy with clove, banana and citrus flavors.”

Food Pairing: Scallop Crudo with Citrus Fruits

Our Thoughts: A traditional German Hefeweizen, Zeppelin will be the only hefeweizen served at SAVOR this year. Expect to taste the typical banana and clove-like flavors associated with your traditional hefeweizens. Zeppelin will be a nice contrast to Revival’s Double Black IPA."
