Have a Beer With…Matt Rose of Forge Brew Works

When I first spoke with Matt Rose, founder and head brewer of Lorton, Virginia’s Forge Brew Works, he was in the middle of a brew day, and not just any brew day.  The recipe was for an imperial oatmeal rye, a beast of a beer whose 140 pounds of grain per barrel made for backbreaking work.  But Rose, a former NASA aerospace engineer, doesn’t let tricky situations overwhelm him.  In his upbeat way, he brushed aside the mash’s difficulty to talk about the overwhelming positivity he’s encountered since opening in October.
