When George Aguilar and his staff fill their first growler tonight at D'Vines in Columbia Heights, it will no doubt be a very satisfying experience. Way back in 2011, we posted on how D'Vines had been told by ABRA that they could not fill growlers because of the ABRA code. (h/t to Tammy Tuck of the Washington City Paper for the original scoop.) Well, thankfully the alcohol omnibus bill that passed in December, D'Vines can now sell growlers.
Tonight (April 22) at 6pm, they'll kick things off with a bunch of rare brews on tap in honor of Earth Day. They'll also give a free growler vessel to the first 100 customers. There are 28 tap lines, which should keep a healthy number of beers rotating through.
From 6-8p, drop by and talk to DC Brau's Brandon Skall, who will be on-hand with a bunch of Brau brews. From 8:30-10p, John Gartner of New Belgium will be there to chat beer, life, whatever, really.
Here's the opening night growler list, no word yet on pricing, but be sure to check out the vertical of Dogfish Head Palo Santo, the 2010 Calabaza Blanca from Jolly Pumpkin, and the 2011 G'Knight. Why you would need an imperial red ale from 2011 is beyond me, but if you want a whole growler of it, well, have fun!
