DC Beer Week 2014 returns from August 17-24. Although we have day-by-day line-ups posted, it may also be helpful for the #DCBrews community to check out what some players that are going above and beyond will be offering. Sunday, August 17 – 1pm – Escape to the Cape: City Tap House will dedicate 12 draft lines to Cisco Brewers Inc. and Allagash Brewing Company’s most popular beers, and pour their year round, seasonal, and rare styles from 1 PM to 6 PM. Standouts include Whale’s Tale Pale Ale, Grey Lady, Indie Pale Ale, Summer of Lager, Double India Pale Ale, Saison Farmhouse Ale, Island Reserve Lager, as well as the Shark Tracker Light Lager. Prices range from $5 to $12 per draft. Tallboys of Narragansett Beer’s Lager and Del’s Shandy will also be available for $4. Additionally, representatives from Luke’s Lobster will also be on hand to co-host a neighborhood lobster boil on the restaurant’s 40-seat outdoor patio. Cost is $25 to enjoy a plate of fresh lobster, potatoes, sausage and corn on the cob. Live music will be played throughout the afternoon.
Tuesday. August 19 – 6pm – Deschutes Beer Dinner: City Tap House will host a culinary adventure with award-winning craft beers from Deschutes Brewery, located in Bend, Oregon. This is a one-of-a-kind event as City Tap House is the exclusive restaurant in Washington pouring Deschutes, one of the countries top rated brewers. Priced at $75 per person (tax and gratuity not included), the menu will consist of five-courses prepared by City Tap House’s Culinary Director Brian Cooke each paired with highly rated brews. Standouts include Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Armory XPA, Fresh Squeezed IPA, Mirror Mirror, and Not the Stoic. Additionally, Jeremy Kieffer, the Market Sales Manager for Deschutes Brewery, will be on hand to talk about the history of the brewery.
Thursday, August 21 – 5pm – Where the Wild Beers Are: Sour Thursday: City Tap House will load their beer lines with a plethora of sour and wild ale beers from around the world such as Gueuzerie Tilquin, Leipziger Gose, Uinta Brewing Company, and Perennial Artisan Ales. Prices range from $6 to $13 per draft, and from $6 to $110 for specialty bottled sours and wilds. Additionally, guests can opt for a Sour Thursday Tasting Package and receive 10 five-ounce tastes of the sour and wild ale beers poured throughout the evening along with a commemorative City Tap House place for them to take home. Saturday, August 23 – 12pm – Colorado vs. Delmarva Cornhole Tourney: City Tap House’s culinary team will host a neighborhood cookout on their patio from 12 Noon to 5 PM. Cost is $15 per person to enjoy both chilidogs with Colorado Green Chili and half smokes with sides of macaroni salad, potato salad, and baked beans. A variety of beers will also be on hand which are priced at $5 each for those participating in the cookout. Highlights include the Breckenridge Brewery, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, 3 Stars Brewing Company, Evolution Craft Brewing Company, Left Hand Brewing and New Belgium Brewing. Furthermore, guests are encouraged to participate in their cornhole tournament, which will be held on the restaurant’s expansive outdoor patio throughout the afternoon. Each team that registers will be randomly partnered with one of the six brewery teams. There is no cost to enter, but due to the demand for the previous tournament on the 4th of July all teams are asked to register by Wednesday, August 20 by contacting Liz Gartzke at egartzke@public houseusa.com. The grand-prize winner will receive a brewery tour and gift certificate to City Tap House. Furthermore, the teams associated with the winning brewery will receive a specialty prize pack compliments of that brewery.
