It’s a great time to be in ‘Murica, you guys.  The Olympics?  Getting all the medals.  BBQ?  Smoking all the meats (and even the tofu).  Craft beer?  Making all the styles.  Honestly, it’s easy to forget about the phenomenal beers that are popping up in some places you probably wouldn’t expect.  From Japan to Italy to Spain to Switzerland, craft beer has taken a positive global turn that’s easy to overlook, over-suds’d as we are. That being said, opportunities to sample some crafty goodness from these emerging beer markets is something we should seek out with fervor and intensity.

Next week, ChurchKey will do their best to satisfy your need for that global beer experience.  On Monday, August 20th at 6PM, they’ll be pouring 11 craft brews from what Beer Director Greg Engert is calling “The Swiss New Wave.” This event includes beers from esteemed Swiss breweries Brasserie Franches Montagnes and Trois Dames, as well as the premier of the Bad Attitude line from Birrificio Ticinese Sa.  I don’t mean to gush, but I’d do a slew of horrible, unspeakable things for a glass of Brasserie Franches Montagnes Abbaye de Saint Bon Chien.  Terrible, terrible things.  Check the draft list below:

Bad Attitude Bootlegger
Bad Attitude Hippie (Pilsner Wine)
Bad Attitude Hobo (Hoppy Amber Ale)
Bad Attitude Kurt Pale Ale
Bad Attitude The Dude (West Coast IPA)
Bad Attitude Two Penny Porter
Trois Dames Fraicheur du Soir
Trois Dames La Semeuse Espresso Stout
Trois Dames Sainte Ni Touche (Barrel-aged Scottish Ale)
BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien (Sour red blend)
BFM Quatorze (Heavily hopped wheat finished with coffee)

On top of that event, ChurchKey will be pouring  beers from the most unexpected beer-producing country…Germany. Bear with me for a second, folks, because I’m about to explain.  Germany is a well respected beer producing nation; however, when beer lovers talk about our Deutsche friends, they tend to discuss Germany’s tendency to brew phenomenal beers in “traditional” styles.

At least one brewery in the Rhineland has something to say about that: Freigeist Bierkultur. This boundary-pushing brewery made their way up to The Festival in Massachusetts back in June (courtesy of The Shelton Brothers) and made quite a splash.  Thankfully, a few leftover kegs from that event have made their way down to ChurchKey.
