DC Beer Week is all about the #dcbrews scene coming together to celebrate what makes craft beer in our city great. This year, the DCBW planning committee has gone one step further toward this end and brewed a collaboration beer for the week.
The “Solidarity Saison” was brewed in equal amounts by seven local breweries (Capitol City Brewing Company, Chocolate City Beer, DC Brau, District ChopHouse, Gordon Biersch, Mad Fox, 3 Stars Brewing Company). Each brewery brewed their own interpretation of a saison completely independently. The different threads were then blended and carbonated at the District ChopHouse except for one cask that was pulled prior to carbonation.
Here’s where the Solidarity Saison will be put on draft each night. Remember that there may be leftovers the day or two afterward as well!
Sunday – Beer Cruise
Monday – ChurchKey
Tuesday – Pizza Paradiso Dupont
Wednesday – The Big Hunt/Granville Moore’s
Thursday – Cask Night at Chophouse/Cask and Draft
Friday – Meridian Pint
Saturday – Smith Commons
So what is the beer like? District Chophouse Head Brewer Barrett Lauer says, “It is medium bodied with a light orange color and is unfiltered. It has a very approachable yet unique aroma with notes of clove, fruit, citrus, basil and of course….hops! It finishes slightly sweet and ends nicely dry.”
For folks out there who like beer specs, here’s some more info: The Solidarity Saison contains ten different malts, ten different hops, six different yeast strains, and even basil and lime peels used in 3 Stars version. Its combined ABV comes in at 6.4%.
Lauer noted via email, “I think the Solidarity is a great interpretation of the style and am extremely pleased with the final product. I also think it reinforces the opinion that we are stronger together than alone. A core concept of the DC Beer Week Craft Beer Community.”
Here’s to that important message. Be sure to check out The Solidarity Saison this week!
