Since it’s Thursday and I’m feeling generous, I’m going to drop a bit of knowledge on these here internets.

On August 25th, 1830, the residents of Brussels decided that they had just about had just about enough of The Netherlands and King William I’s rule.  Being a reasonable people in a time of strife, they did what all reasonable people do in times of strife – riot.  Thus began the Belgian Revolution which eventually, and I’m skipping more than a bit here, led to the coronation of King Leopold I as King of the Belgians on July 21st, 1831, now known as Belgian Independence Day. (Note: Wikipedia!)

Belgians?  Celebratory occasions?  Well, this can really only mean one thing (and if you say waffles or moules frites or tiny peeing statues you are wrong, so stop right there).  Belgian beer on Belgian Independence Day, a partnership made in…Belgium.

This Saturday (7/21) from open to close, both Meridian Pint and Smoke and Barrel will celebrate BID by pouring Belgian drafts for $2 off and giving away some choice glassware to boot.  Take advantage of this occasion to sip some choice beers while using the fun-to-say word Goudenband freely and without reservation.
