SAVOR Week Nightly Preview: Friday, June 8

Ah it’s finally Friday, which means the first night of SAVOR is tonight. Who’s excited? More importantly…who’s got tickets?

I hope you’re all recovering nicely from yesterday. So much went on that we’re pretty sure the entire #DCBrews community is nursing a collective hangover today.

But you have to power through because whether you’re going to SAVOR tonight or not, there are still a lot of great events.

ChurchKey’s event of the day comments in about 90 minutes with a Founders and Upland Brewing event. Try the Upland sours and of course Founders’ huge and varied selections.

If happy hour is more your persuasion, stop by America Eats Tavern and get some $1 oysters and some Fullsteam beers that aren’t available anywhere else in DC. Beasley’s Honey White is one of DCBeer’s can’t-miss beers of SAVOR Week.

Rustico launches Bluejacket’s second beer tonight (their second beer launch in as many nights). The beer is a collaboration with Devils Backbone and is a black Berlinerweiss, a style we here at DCBeer haven’t seen yet.

Meanwhile, at The Black Squirrel, Devils Backbone will be debuting some of its own beers. Vienna lager + Black Squirrel burger = taste bud joy.

For the after-SAVOR crowd, you’ve got two options: Two Brothers at Smoke and Barrel and Flying Dog at Poste. If you need a nightcap after SAVOR, I’d be surprised, but these two spots will hold it down and keep it open late for you!

Have an awesome time at SAVOR or just being out and about!

ChurchKey: Founders and Upland Brewery Draft Feature – 1pm & 4pm
It’s an all Midwestern review as venerable favorite Founders Brewery and newcomer Upland Brewing Company from Indiana come to town with some of their draft rarities. ChurchKey will open early on Friday in honor of SAVOR’s first night and tap Founders at 1PM, followed by Upland at 4PM. There is no admission to attend and beers will be priced individually in 4 oz. tasters and full pours.

America Eats Tavern: Fullsteam Oyster and Cocktail Hour – 4pm
On Friday, June 8th, Fullsteam Brewery will be taking over the taps for our Thomas Downing Oyster and Cocktail Hour. Starting at 4 PM, we will have $6 Fullsteam beer specials all night at the bar and all of our beer taps will be dedicated to Fullsteam’s specialty brews featuring El Toro Classic Cream Ale, Carver Sweet Potato Lager, Fullsteam Southern Lager, Working Man’s Lunch, Barrel-Aged Fullsteam, Spring IPA and Beasley’s Honey White. In addition, from 4-6 PM we will have our usual Thomas Downing Oyster and Cocktail hour specials including $1 freshly shucked oysters from our oyster stand. Special guest Sean Lily Wilson, founder and CEO (Chief Executive Optimist) of Fullsteam Brewery, will be joining us from 4-7 PM. Don’t miss this chance to try some delicious craft brews and chat with a Fullsteam insider!

Rustico Ballston: Debut of Bluejacket and Devils Backbone Ale- 4pm
Bluejacket and Devils Backbone introduce the “Black Berliner Techno Weiss,” a wheat ale created by Jason, Bluejacket’s Brewmaster Megan Parisi and Beer Director Greg Engert. The Techno Weiss is a quenchingly tart ale of a mere 3.5% abv and shows delicious dark roasty notes in congress with the acidity. Just for good measure, they’re pouring another 12 stellar brews from Devils Backbone. Draft list: Black Berliner Techno Weiss, Pear Lager, Milk Stout, India Pale, Lager, Witbier, Wintergreen Weiss, Hazy Summer Ale, Vision Quest, Southwest Lager, Gold Leaf Lager, Vienna Lager, Eight Point IPA, Belgian Congo Pale Ale, Bavarian Dark Lager

The Black Squirrel: Devils Backbone Launch Party – 5pm
The devil is in the details, so knows Devil’s Backbone brewer Jason Oliver. That’s why many of his suds are multiple award winners. Now his extraordinary beer is making its way to DC, and The Black Squirrel is hosting a launch party. Be one of the first in DC to taste these acclaimed brews and meet some of the devils whose elixirs makes us naughty.

Smoke and Barrel: Post-SAVOR Bash with (The) Two Brothers – 10pm
Two Brothers, an awesome brewery from Illinois, will be featured at SAVOR, but you can sample their suds at the Barrel before, during, and after SAVOR. Jason & Jim Ebel, Founders and Owners of Two Brothers Brewing, will bring the party to us after SAVOR for a late-night fiesta. Beers go on at 5PM so feel free to sample early. Eight drafts will be announced shortly.

Poste Modern Brasserie: Flying Dog SAVOR After-party – 11pm
Join Flying Dog and have some local beers at Iron Horse Tap Room after SAVOR’s Friday session concludes. Beer specials, industry folks, and craft beer fans coming together for a great time!
