Fans of tradition and bivalves rejoice – Port City Brewing’s Bill Butcher is partnering with Dave Svec and Brad Blymier of Virginia’s War Shore Oyster Company to brew Revival Stout, a UK-style oyster stout.  Head brewer Jonathan Reeves will use the mollusks’ shells to increase the brewing water’s mineral content, then toss the creatures themselves (and their liquor) into the boiling wort to give the beer a silky mouthfeel and slight brininess.

Starting April 6, Revival will be available on draft at Port City’s taproom, as well as fine oyster houses, restaurants, and bars throughout DC, Virginia, and Maryland.  Five percent of Revival Stout’s sales will be donated to the Oyster Recovery Partnership to support their efforts to revive the oyster population in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.
