Today, February 22, Rustico (827 Slaters Lane in Alexandria) will launch an ongoing, weekly series that they are coining The Hump Day Hat Trick.
During this weekly event that has nothing, as far as we can tell, to do with hockey, Greg Engert will pick three of the coolest, rarest, most limited beers that he can get his hands on and tap them at 6 PM sharp.
Each week will highlight new small batch rarities, exclusive debuts, or hidden gems. To heighten the suspense, Rustico will unveil their Hump Day Hat Trick selections each Monday evening via Facebook and Twitter, so folks are encouraged to follow along each week to get all the information on the new releases.
To kick off the series, Greg has selected Firestone Walker XV, Hitachino Nest 3 Days, and Boogoop from Mikkeller & Three Floyds as the featured beers for the inaugural Hump Day Hat Trick on February 22.
Firestone Walker XV is the extremely limited 15th anniversary brew that is a blend of eight oak barrel-aged ales. Hitachino Nest 3 Days is a special version of the Nest XH Ale, that was actually created after the March earthquake left the brewery damaged and they were forced to extend the mashing period 3 more days until electricity was restored. Due to the circumstances, this beer is limited to only 2,000 bottles and just 10 kegs in the US. Last but not least is a rare collaboration featuring the famed Three Floyds Brewery out of Munster, Indiana and Mikkeller. The Boogoop, a not for the faint of heart, hopped up ale is brewed in part with buckwheat.
