A good many folks will tell you that barleywine is a cold-weather-only beverage and that crisp lagers are for warm weather only.  Then again, some people will tell you that the Chex cereal is the best part of the Chex Mix (?!).  Or that ketchup is superior to mustard (?!?!).  Or that Memphis BBQ is superior to North Carolina BBQ (?!?!?!).

The takeaway here – we took the scenic route, but here we are – is that some people have no idea what they’re talking about and, regardless of what a freaky-warm winter we’re having, we should be able to enjoy a soul-satisfying barleywine at the end of a long week.  Thankfully, for the second year in a row, the fine folks at Mad Fox Brewing are giving us the perfect venue for our barleywine imbibing.

This Saturday, February 11th, Mad Fox Brewing Company will be hosting their 2nd Annual Barleywine Festival, at which they’ll be pouring a rotating list of both their own barleywines as well as those of other top-quality breweries (cask and draught) from 11AM to Midnight. 4 ounce pours will be priced per serving and there is no admission cost.

In addition to the at least 28 barleywines Mad Fox will have on hand (more to be added – see below), they’ll be serving their usual food menu, as well as some Barleywine Festival specials (see below as well).  As these beers tend to average more than 10% ABV (ruh-roh!), both Mad Fox and DCBeer encourage you to walk or take public transportation to the event.  Directors are posted here.
