Mahalo, better beer fans. Maui Brewing Company recently announced plans to start distribution to Virginia. It appears BeerNews broke the story (based on news from Maui), without details on when the supply of beers “brewed with Aloha” will enter the Old Dominion.

A quick call to Specialty Beverage, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, revealed that Maui should be on shelves as early as next month. Norm’s Beer and Wine, fine craft carriers in Vienna, Virginia, also stated that they expected Maui to be on their shelves as early as February.

As for the Maui brews that will be offered in Virginia, an email in to Maui revealed the forthcoming beers: “All the flagship four and seasonals/limited releases.  Next one is La Perouse.” The four mentioned are Bikini Blonde, Big Swell IPA, Coconut Porter, and Mana Wheat. La Perouse is a Belgian White; the witbier won a Silver Medal at last year’s Great American Beer Festival.

Last summer, I had a chance to try Maui’s Coconut Porter, a truly unique interpretation of the style. I picked up the cans when Hurricane Irene canceled my plans for a beach trip to Long Island (long story). A brief respite in Columbia, Maryland yielded a great haul of delicious beers not available in DC or VA. The Coconut Porter was the crown jewel of these.

As always we will keep you updated on any late breaking Maui Brewing Company news along with other beer distribution news for the DMV.
