“BJCP style guidelines be damned!” At least that’s that kind of dialogue I assume takes place on a regular basis at Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, Maryland. This year, Flying Dog is really stepping up their game on the experimental brews front.
Only a few short years ago, Flying Dog released Raging Bitch, a Belgian-style IPA that was a relatively new style at that point. Since then, Raging Bitch has received much acclaim as one of the best representations of that style. In that spirit and in the hopes to do the same with other styles, Flying Dog is set to release the first two new releases of the year with Wildeman, a new addition to the Canis Major series, and Imperial Hefeweizen, the first from this year’s Brewhouse Rarities series.
First up is the Imperial Hefeweizen tap takeover event at Pizza Paradiso Georgetown on Tuesday Jan 24 at 5PM. All Flying Dog drafts will be half-priced .Imperial Hefeweizen is full-bodied and highly-effervescent with sweet malt notes and banana and clove undertones balanced by a crisp snap of malt and spice in the finish. 7.3 % ABV
The next day, Wednesday January 25, join Flying Dog for the Wildeman launch atAmerican Ice Companyfor a half pricetap takeover. The festivities start at 5PM.
Wildeman is a Farmhouse IPA with plenty of bitterness that is balanced by light malt highlights. This beer finish dry, crisp and with a slight hint of acidity. It uses a ton of citra hops for a huge fruit hoppiness. 7.5 % ABV
