Oyster stouts are a strange style of beer. While dry stout and oysters are well-known as a classic beer pairing, oyster stouts take the pairing one step further and incorporate the bivalves into the brewing process.

Flying Dog is offering its own edition of this style with Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout, which will be released tonight at Hank’s Oyster Bar in Dupont Circle.

The beer is brewed with local Rappahannock River oysters and weighs in a 5.5% ABV. The beer is a “dark, roasted, dry, and slightly bitter stout that perfectly complements everyone’s favorite aphrodisiacs.”

Representatives from the Oyster Recovery Partnership will be on-hand to talk about their important efforts to “actively promote, support and restores oyster for ecologic and economic purposes” in the Chesapeake Bay. All proceeds from sales of Pearl Necklace go toward the ORP.

Patrons who buy a pint of Pearl Necklace will be able to purchase oysters at happy hour prices. They’ll also be able to chat up Flying Dog representative Tommy Hunter, who will be showing off the only-slightly-awkward moustache he’s been growing for Movember.
