On Tuesday November 8, ChurchKey is throwing a sock-hop of sorts. Beginning at 6 PM, the draft lines will be flowing with the hippest and hoppy-est brews Beer Director Greg Engert can get his hands on. This Crazy Rare Hoppy Brew Night will feature some ultra-scarce brews for the D.C. drinker including Flower Power IPA from Ithaca Brewing Company, Wipe Out IPA from Port Brewing in CA, Oak-Aged Big Hoppy Monster from Terrapin Brewing Company and Crooked Tree IPA from Dark Horse Brewing Company. There is no admission to the event and brews will be priced individually by the full glass and 4 oz. tasting pour.

SCULPIN IPA – Ballast Point Brewing Company – California

The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

FLOWER POWER IPA – Ithaca Brewing Company – New York.

Elegantly traditional and rich in its’ hop character, this India Pale Ale is thirst-quenching and soul-satisfying. Each sip delivers a bounty of herbal and floral hop character, balanced by the fruity signature of our house yeast.

WIPE OUT IPA – Port Brewing/ Lost Abbey – California

With 78 IBUs. Our version of a West Coast IPA- brewed in the San Diego style. This massively hoppy beer gets its flavor and attitude from no less than five hop varieties including Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe and Summit.

OAK-AGED BIG HOPPY MONSTER – Terrapin Brewing Company – Georgia

Like a mad scientist Spike starts with Big Hoppy Monster, Terrapin’s Imperial Red Ale, and its tantalizing hop aroma and enormous malt backbone. As if that if that wasn’t enough flavor for one beer, Spike ages it w/ French oak spirals for two months. The touch of toasted vanilla from the oak combines with the mammoth hop aroma and rich maltyness of the beer to create a complex flavor experience that’s electrifying!

CROOKED TREE IPA – Dark Horse Brewing Company – Michigan

It’s not as heavy bodied and malty as many IPA’s, in contrast the palate is more crisp and dry. If you consider yourself a “hop-head” you owe it to yourself to grab this beer.

EXCELSIOR! THIRTEEN – Ithaca Brewing Company – New York

Our anniversary ale, THIRTEEN is carefully brewed with raw and malted wheat and flaked oats, assertively hopped with Citra and Sorachi Ace, spiked with an addition of orange and lemon peel and vigorously fermented with an American Ale yeast. Enjoy the incandescent appearance, immense citrus aromas and flavors, soft and fluffy mouthfeel and bitter zing.
