October is absolutely one of my favorite times of the year. The weather is cooling down, baseball’s post-season is getting started, and my weekends are now devoted to football and pork. Our area does a great job of celebrating this time of year by hosting a ton of Oktoberfest events. This year is no exception, and many annual events are bigger and better and would make Christian Heurich himself proud.
Take a look at this year’s lineup!

10/15 – Rustico 5th Annual Oktoberfest Block Party
Rustico’s Oktobeerfest celebration returns for a 5th year of brewed bliss. The raucous Alexandria block party is set to outdo seasons past this year, with more beers, Germanic tastes and revelry for all with music, a wine and bubbly garden, family-friendly activities from Buzz Bakery and the chance to win an all-expense paid, craft brewery getaway to Colorado.
Oktobeerfest will be pouring an impressive lineup of 50 domestic and international craft beers – all on draft – carefully sourced by Neighborhood Restaurant Group’s Beer Director Greg Engert. Experienced Oktobeerfest guests may want to shine those pint glasses for a taste of the brand new Oktoberfest brews from local beermakers Port City and Lost Rhino, as well as Flying Dog’s brand new The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Also available this year, will be some amazing European selections including Schneider Wiesen Edel-Weisse served in an Oak-Clad Gravity keg and Kräusen from Schlenkerla Smokebeer and rare treats such as Southern Tier Pumking, Evolution Jacques au Lantern, and The Bruery Autumn Maple will be flowing all afternoon.
A spread of German-inspired foods will be prepared by Rustico Executive Chef Steve Mannino. Hearty, seasonal dishes such as butternut squash soup, braised pork shoulder with red cabbage, and wild boar stroganoff will be offered alongside beer-friendly favorites like fried schnitzel and sausage sandwiches, roasted turkey legs and giant pretzels with mustard and cheese sauce.
