Just a little news from Brewery Ommegang, who recently announced the release of Aphrodite on draft and in bottles in DC.

Ommegang describes this limited edition ale:

Aphrodite has champagne-like carbonation much as the foam of the waves of the sea. Plus enchanting flavors with whispers of raspberry and pear, and hints of funk and tartness created by the Brett yeast. The refreshing dryness comes from the unusual combination of Ommegang and Brett yeasts, and incites feelings of love and thirst, though we don’t know about lust. Grains of paradise are infused into the nectar, and when poured Aphrodite is crowned with a luxuriously shimmering pink head.

Having had this beer on the Beer Cruise, I can attest that it’s very tasty, but if you’re looking for something overwhelmingly funky or strongly of raspberry, this isn’t your beer. The subtlety of both elements in Aphrodite is very nice, and the Brett B really did dry it out pleasantly, but it didn’t add “funk” in the way you might think of a Jolly Pumpkin or Cantillon as “funky.”

Aphrodite has shipped to the following places and will appear on draft there if it hasn’t already:
Belga Cafe, Birch & Barley, Meridian Pint, RFD, Thunder Burger, Granville Moore’s, and the Bier Baron.
