Several weeks ago, we told you about this first seasonal release for Port City Brewing of Alexandria, VA. Here’s what head brewer Jonathan Reeves had to say about the beer:
The Oktoberfest will be around 13.5 to 14 degrees Plato and about 24 IBUs. All malt will be of German origin. In order of predominance: Vienna, Pils, Munich and some Caramunich for color. This will be on the hoppy end of the style with German Magnum in the boil and Hersbrucker for flavor and aroma. I intend to serve the beer in the “Keller” or “Zwickel” style, unfiltered. We are calling it simply “Oktoberfest,” and it will only be available in kegs and sixtels.
While the Oktoberfest won’t officially be available at venues around the area until the first week of September, Port City is offering a sneak peak tasting at the brewery (3950 Wheeler Avenue) in Alexandria on August the 26th. Port City staff will be on hand to tell you about their take on the traditional Marzen style, and they will be offering samples and growlers to go of this and their other beers.
