For many, the annual issue of Washingtonian‘s 100 Very Best Restaurants is eagerly anticipated and oft discussed. While reading this year’s list of restaurants, I found myself wondering…does the quality of the beer being served at these restaurants match the quality of the food being prepared?  As you will see, in some cases we think yes, and in a number of others, we think no.

This year, Washingtonian chose to rank only the top 40 restaurants; numbers 41-100 were all ranked equally. With this in mind, will examine the Top 100 list in a series of three articles:

Our Top Picks, The Best of the Rest, and “Foie Gras & Fizzy Yellow Water?”

With DC Restaurant Week approaching (August 15-21) as well as DC Beer Week (August 14-21), you might want to narrow down your selections by examining who has a solid beer game and who has fizzy beer shame. We are here to help break it down like a fermentable sugar.

Beer Menus for all restaurants all in one place?

The Best of the Rest

Just as there can only be one Highlander, there can only be so many superlative four star rankings on our list. We wish there were more, and we’re sure that as the DC craft beer scene impacts fine dining, there will be. The good news is, there are still a ton of excellent restaurants that have similarly excellent beer lists. The restaurants below will offer you rare and unusual selections from a variety of breweries in a number of different styles. In fact, you may have a harder time trying to navigate the beer list than the food menu. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

These restaurants all offer some degree of decent domestic and/or imported craft beer. Two stars is by no means an indication of a bad beer menu. You will be able to find at least a few quality beers, but the menu may not be extensive or offer rarities.
