Flying Dog Happy Hour at Kramerbooks

Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso and Anita Thompson, widow of the late Hunter S Thompson will be at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe to discuss “the lore behind the labels” of Flying Dog Ales. The brewery has a unique and interesting relationship with the “Gonzo Godfathers,” author Hunter S. Thompson and illustrator Ralph Steadman. In addition to the discussion, Anita Thompson will be present with signed copies of The Gonzo Way and Ancient Gonzo Wisdom. Also on hand will be a few signed copies of “Phlogs,” the coffee table photobook of Flying Dog founder George Stranahan’s work which will be given away to those in attendance who exhibit the Gonzo spirit. Meridian Pint Homebrewer Match Up III Tuesday May 31st:

Homebrewers will be pouring their brews in the basement bar of the Pint from 5-6 p.m. Meridian Pint staff and other official judges will evaluate each of the home brews. The entry with the highest total score will win its creator a $100 Pint gift card (The 6 winners in 2011 will also square-off in a final showdown for a grand prize)   At 6, when judging has ended, Meridian Pint patrons can head downstairs to sample the home brews at no cost from until 8 p.m. or until the beer runs out, whichever comes first. Flying Dog and Lagunitas, the craft breweries well known for standing up, speaking out and occasionally causing a little trouble, have teamed up to showcase their portfolios at Pizzeria Paradiso (M St) for the night. The event, aptly named for the street where it will take place and in reflection of the evening, “MPaired,” will feature 5 beers from each brewery. Each beer will be paired with the closest corresponding beer style from the opposite brewery’s portfolio to be tasted in tandem with Pizzeria Paradiso food pairings. Brewery representatives and brewers will be on hand to guide attendees through each pairing.
