SAVOR Week – Tuesday Preview: Heavy Seas Plank, Homebrew Matchup and @dcbrau cask !

Night number two of SAVOR Beer Week DC has a whole host of events to keep you satisfied. From tastings, to dinners, to readings of Gonzo Literature, there’s something for everyone out there. Ommegang Beer Dinner at Smith Commons
Savor the best of Belgian style American Craft Beer and the dishes of Belgian born chef Frederik De Pue at an Ommegang Beer Dinner at Smith Commons. Dinner begins at 7 pm.

Flying Dog Happy Hour at Kramerbooks

Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso and Anita Thompson, widow of the late Hunter S Thompson will be at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe to discuss “the lore behind the labels” of Flying Dog Ales. The brewery has a unique and interesting relationship with the “Gonzo Godfathers,” author Hunter S. Thompson and illustrator Ralph Steadman. In addition to the discussion, Anita Thompson will be present with signed copies of The Gonzo Way and Ancient Gonzo Wisdom. Also on hand will be a few signed copies of “Phlogs,” the coffee table photobook of Flying Dog founder George Stranahan’s work which will be given away to those in attendance who exhibit the Gonzo spirit. Afterwords Cafe will feature these Flying Dog brews on draft: Raging Bitch Belgian IPA, Whiskey Barrel-Aged Gonzo Imperial Porter, DoggieStyle Classic Pale Ale, Coffee Imperial Stout (NITRO pour)

Belga Cafe Holds Unibroue Dinner

Walk the Plank: Heavy Seas Beer Tasting at Bier Baron
Join Heavy Seas for a special tasting and help them kick off Plank, their brand new experimental series. The first edition is an English Style Old Ale. They will also be featuring a special cask for the night and tasting some other rare brews, including their 09 Barley Wine and Holy Sheet. And they’ll be giving away glassware too.

Meridian Pint Homebrewer Match Up III Tuesday May 31st:

Homebrewers will be pouring their brews in the basement bar of the Pint from 5-6 p.m. Meridian Pint staff and other official judges will evaluate each of the home brews. The entry with the highest total score will win its creator a $100 Pint gift card (The 6 winners in 2011 will also square-off in a final showdown for a grand prize)   At 6, when judging has ended, Meridian Pint patrons can head downstairs to sample the home brews at no cost from until 8 p.m. or until the beer runs out, whichever comes first. Be sure to also try the cask of DC Brau Public Ale dry-hopped with Columbus hops, the first such cask in DC!

Flying Dog Brewery and Lagunitas Brewing Company present: “MPaired”

Flying Dog and Lagunitas, the craft breweries well known for standing up, speaking out and occasionally causing a little trouble, have teamed up to showcase their portfolios at Pizzeria Paradiso (M St) for the night. The event, aptly named for the street where it will take place and in reflection of the evening, “MPaired,” will feature 5 beers from each brewery. Each beer will be paired with the closest corresponding beer style from the opposite brewery’s portfolio to be tasted in tandem with Pizzeria Paradiso food pairings. Brewery representatives and brewers will be on hand to guide attendees through each pairing.
