A local NBC affiliate out of Green Bay reports that the White House Super Bowl party will feature beer from Hinterland Brewery out of Green Bay, WI.
Several cases of the beer will be shipped to the White House in time for the big game.
“From time to time we get a lot of celebrities that come into the restaurant and that’s always fun, but this kind of brings it to a whole new level,” says Hinterland Owner, Bill Tressler.
Both Tressler and Head Brewer Joe Karls say they’ve never brewed beer for a President before calling the honor “a feather in their cap” so to speak.
“It’s something that I can cross off my bucket list that was never there. It’s just a very exciting thing,” says Karls.
It’s not known how the White House found out about Hinterland beer, but Tressler and Karls believe their recent brewing awards may have played a part. With 200 people expected at the party, they have their fingers crossed Washington becomes a fan.
“Just a real cool opportunity all around and we’re super excited to be providing it maybe with any luck we’ll get some feedback, and hope it to be positive,” says Tressler.
The White House ordered Pale Ale and Amber Ale, 2 beers Tressler and Karls believe will represent Green Bay at the White House. Right now, Hinterland beer is just distributed in Wisconsin, making this the first time the company has shipped a large order like this to Washington D.C.
Have any of you out there ever had Hinterland? How does it stack up to the other in-state only favorite New Glarus? The beers seem to be reviewed pretty favorably on BeerAdvocate and Ratebeeer. Hopefully this will be a new White House trend that will move away from the Beer Summit selections last summer.
How about some balance though, President Obama? Why not order in some Pittsburgh, or more broadly, Pennsylvania beers for your soiree? We know, we know, you’re a big Bears fan. But since they didn’t bear down, wouldn’t it make more sense for you to pull for the Steelers to avenge the loss of your hometown team?
Either way, congratulations to Hinterland! Hope your beer is well-received and that we’ll see it out here in the District.
What are you serving at your Superbowl party? Let us know in the comments!
