Cap City 2-G IPA Tapping Party Flyer

Capitol City Brewing Company is throwing a party tonight at its downtown location to celebrate its 2,000th batch of beer. The beer will be available at all three locations starting today however, and I was able to sneak a taste of it at lunch and talk to one the brewers, Mika.

The 7.8% ‘2-G IPA’ is a bit stronger and darker (copper-ish) than you would associate with the single IPA style. The aggressive use of Cascade and Citra hops is exactly what you would expect from a West Coast IPA however. There is a bit of sweetness – which comes from the use of Crystal malts in addition to the Pale base malt – but it is well balanced by the bitterness of the high alpha acid hops. The real highlight is the flavor and aroma though; the American ale was dry hopped three separate times. The Citra is particularly potent and only becomes more floral and fruity as the beer warms. This one is not for the faint of heart, but hop-heads will surely love it.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the party tonight or even anytime soon. Mika informs me he just brewed another batch this morning and it should be around for a while. For those of you who can make it but are looking for an excuse, there will be a cask version of the beer available tonight only at the party. Otherwise, you can try it at Cap City’s happy hour every weekday from 4-7p for just $3.50 a pint.
