We already let you know about the Brickskeller‘s two nights of Fresh Hop Ale tastings with Lost Abbey’s Tomme Arthur, now we’re letting you know about a third event this Friday, October 29, that will leave you either fearfully sane or sanely terrified: The Sanity vs. Fear Beer Tasting. The event, named in honor of this weekend’s festivities pitting Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s dueling rallies on the Mall, will put a number of beers out there for public consumption.
The event will feature Tom Dalldorf’s Rolling Boil Blues Band, who will do a set of “beer infused tunes” after the tasting concludes. Tom is the editor of Celebrator Beer Magazine. Brickskeller owner and DC beer legend Dave Alexander will be on guitar with his old band, which adds an element to this event that I personally never dreamed I’d see.
As if the music weren’t enough, Mad Fox Brewing Company brewmaster Bill Madden and Devil’s Backbone brewmaster Jason Oliver will be on-hand pouring some tasty tipples of their own. The ‘Skeller will be opening up Brassiere A Vapeur: L’Vapor en Folie 1987. I’m not sure how to feel about beer that was brewed when I was a year old, but I’m sure it drinks mostly nicely with only a hint of snark on the edge, just like everyone else born around that time. Here’s the rest of the beer list:
Clipper City (now Heavy Seas): Below Decks Barleywine 2006
Devil’s Backbone: Kung Pow Enter the Hop
Devil’s Backbone: Congo Pale Ale
Devil’s Backbone: Baltic Coffee Porter
Mad Fox: Rye Whiskey Barrel Oaked Wee Heavy (Cask)
Mad Fox: Snap IPA
Mad Fox: Autumn’s IPA
Tickets for the event are available here. The doors will open at 6, and who knows when this event will start or end.
In the battle between Sanity and Fear, who will win out? The answer will be decided, maybe, on Saturday, but on Friday night, at Brickskeller’s warm-up bout the winner is clear: your tastebuds.
