I am sure you are still recovering from sleeping on the floor at ChurchKey all weekend, but if you are a real trooper you might want to head back to an old standby tonight. (Sure Birreria Paradiso is actually only a few years old but give it to me, it’s early and my coffee is still to hot to drink.)

Tonight at 6:30PM and 9PM there will be two seatings for a Smuttynose Beer Dinner. There will be four courses matched with six of the Portsmouth New Hampshire brewery’s beers and lead brewer Dan Schubert will be there to guide you through the tasting. Schubert is actually a DC/MD native who moved up to New Hampshire for college. He graduated with a degree in Physics, so naturally he started his career filling beer bottles! Brewers’ education qualifications are starting to look like an arms race–at one time you just needed to be a homebrewer to start a brewpub, now you need to be a Physicist, ouch.

Although I don’t have the official beer list, I can guess at a few likely suspects. Smuttynose Finestkind Pale Ale, you know the one with the old guys sitting on lawnchairs on the front of the sixpack?–would pair well with the pizza Birreria will probably be serving for one of the courses. Old Brown Dog will probably also make an appearance. As for specialty beers, I’d guess the Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale might be around tonight and perhaps even Smuttynose’s Big Beer offering for October–The Big A IPA. (They’ve also go a Wheat Wine on the horizon, but it might be too early for serving that.)

The Smuttynose dinner is $65 a person for 6 beers and 4 courses. Seatings are 6:30 and 9:00 PM tonight (Monday Oct. 26). Birreria Paradiso is located in Georgetown in the basement of Pizzeria Paradiso. Take the blue bus from Roslyn or Dupont or walk from Foggy Bottom metro! The address is 3282 M Street NW. Call 202-337-4936 to make a reservation for the dinner. More info about the venue here. More info on Smuttynose here.
