Blue & Gray Brewing Co. hails from Fredericksburg, VA which is a little over an hour south of DC. Don’t let that stop you tho, it’s a long weekend! Musings Over a Pint tipped me off to this nice preview of their Oktoberfest beer. The finished beer actually wont be tapped till their fest party but you can try it out this weekend! Leave early as they close at 2 PM. Here is what Musings had to say:
Over at the Blue & Gray Brewery this weekend, you will have the opportunity to get a preview of this year’s Octoberfest beer. The brewery opens an hour early today for tasting (at 2pm) and stays open an hour later on Saturday (until 2pm.) Free samples only, no sales yet. The Oktoberfest beer will be officially tapped during the keg tapping ceremony on September 25th at 7pm during the Octoberfest celebration. At that time it will be available by the glass, growler, and keg.

Of course while you are down there you might want to check out the rest of the scene. Once Blue and Gray kicks you out try these other places in town…
Capital Ale House Fredericksburg: This local beer bar chain has over 60 beers on draft! They’ve also got Star Hill and Victory on cask and over 250 bottles to choose from. You can get locals like Legend and St. Georges beer here as well. The original is in Richmond but this place is nothing to shrug at. They’ve got steaks and moules frites and their menu even has beer pairing advice. Here’s a their website!
Kybecca Winebar: Ok, ok it’s a topic of great annoyance to me (as a beer enthusiast) that winebars have to be so trendy and opening up everywhere, but at least some of them realize that great beer deserves some equal billing. Kybecca is one of those winebars. They’ve got things like Spaten, Lagunitas Maximus and even the odd lambic. Here is their beer list…
