DC Beer’s Richard and Adam visit Silver Branch Brewing Company to talk with Head Brewer Christian Layke and Marketing Manager Erin Karla about upcoming events and beer releases.
Silver Branch is located in the heart of Silver Spring (just a few blocks from the DC Metro Redline stop). After opening its doors a year ago, Silver Branch has gained a reputation for its excellent dark lagers, along with a host of other favorite brews (including Hazy IPAs and Stouts).
Celebrating One-Year Anniversary This Week
Silver Branch has a number of events this week to celebrate its one-year anniversary. On Wednesday (March 4), Silver Branch is hosting its weekly Trivia Night with a special round on Silver Branch beers. On Thursday (March 5), Silver Branch is previewing its new beer called Power Boots Pilsner during its weekly Gravity Cask Night.
On Friday (March 6), Silver Branch is releasing its Power Boots Pilsner, which was brewed with a “pink boots hop blend” created by the women brewer’s organization, the Pink Boots Society. On Saturday (March 7), Silver Branch is releasing a new hazy IPA called the Deus Ex Machina. Saturday’s festivities will also include live music and an outdoor grill area. Reflecting on the First Year at Silver Branch 
Christian and Erin believe that the key to their success is the hard work and flexibility of their team. Everyone is willing to play a variety of roles to get things done. Being part of such a special group is very rewarding.
Richard, Adam, and Erin agree that Obsidian Castle is one of Christian’s best creations in the past year. It is an old-school dark lager that is clean, flavorful, and consistent. Christian is also particularly proud of his Glass Castle Pilsner. And while Silver Branch is known for its dark lagers, its best-selling beer is its flagship IPA, Quantum Shift.
What to Expect in Year Two and Beyond
Looking ahead, Silver Branch is excited to host its first beer festival called Stout Fest on March 21. The event will include participation from at least 15 breweries, with Silver Branch offering its flagship stout beer, Chronicle. Tickets give you access to unlimited tastings, a full-size festival glass, and a food voucher.
Christian and Erin are also excited to announce that Silver Branch beers will be available at the Washington Nationals stadium this upcoming season. Enjoy a Silver Branch brew as you cheer on the defending World Series champs!
