Wednesday. The doldrums of mid-week. That gap between your Tuesday night happy hour and Thursday night slow-pitch softball game. Stuck right in the middle of the week, offering little to get excited about.
Unless it is Wednesday of DC Beer Week. Then it’s a choice cut indeed. There is a ton of options all across the area, both your old standbys and some new DCBW players. A great choice for the latter could be Quarterdeck in Arlington, everyone’s favorite nearby crab shack, for a DC Brau-soaked crab fest.
You could go Rogue at all Pizzeria Paradiso locations or enjoy a night at The Black Squirrel colored by the environs of Sierra Nevada and Boulevard. Spoiler alert: The Black Squirrel will have SAVOR-only wild ale Terra Incognita.
Head to the Rockies with Boundary Road or the Great Lakes (Ohio, at least) with Bourbon Glover Park. The former will have not-seen-in DC treats from Odell and Funkwerks, among others. Odell is a favorite every year during SAVOR with its English style ales and excellent barrel program. Funkwerks, a Saison-only brewhouse from Fort Collins, should be the perfect refreshing escape from this blazing summer.
As always, ChurchKey and Rustico Alexandria will be bringing the big guns with Bluejacket and The Brewer’s Art collaboration and an Epic tap takeover, respectively. Smoke and Barrel will be bringing the Wasatch to DC with a special beer dinner featuring all manner of meat paired with Epic beer and High West Distillery spirits. There are plenty of options so go drink some DC brews!
DC Beer picks:
If you missed SAVOR or loved Terra Incognita, hit up Black Squirrel. DC Brews are on rare display at Quarterdeck if crabs are your thing. Check out the best beers not in DC at Boundary Road. Hit up Funkwerks and let us know what you think. The winner of the night will almost surely be Smoke and Barrel. High West is one of the best craft distillers in the country and Epic has some great food beers. Whiskey. Craft beer. Smoked meat. Excellent!
