The folks from Petaluma, Lagunitas Brewing Company, are at it again with a new brew.
On Wednesday, January 16 at 4:20pm, join Lagunitas at The Big Hunt for a "tap tussle" and the release of Fusion 11.
Fusion 11 was created by four folks local to the DC area. Two were retailers, and the other two are home brewers. Lagunitas had a home brewing competition, and Mark Girard from BURP won with his CasuALE "which is a hop-bursted American pale ale that is brewed on behalf of the Casual Hoya blog which[covers] the Georgetown Hoyas (http://www.casualhoya.com/)," according to Girard. Another home brewer was chosen at random: John Gosselin. This brew commemorates the upcoming inauguration. The Fusion series are region specific, and the timing was right, according to DC Lagunitas rep Bernie Van Order.
Lagunitas put out questionnaires and asked their on-premise retailers what style of beer they would like to pour at their bar. Two names were drawn from that pot. The winners were Josh Fernands of Pizzeria Paradiso Georgetown and Brandon Irby from Lost Dog Café in Merrifield. They all met with Jeremy Marshall, Lagunitas' head brewer, and created a dark strong American ale. Fusion 11 includes some dark roasted barley, rye, and a small percentage of wheat. Some new experimental hops were also used to make this elixir.
At the Hunt, you'll be able to try Fusion 11 as well as Lagunitas IPA, Hop Stoopid, and possibly Lagunitas Sucks.
