Yeah, beer is interesting when it's aged, and it costs money to age it. But I agree, beer reserve lists are the antithesis of beer generally. We're getting hosed enough on beer prices in this city, so if douchey winos want to drop $40 on a bottle (whch is never worth it, by the way), then let them have at it. And they can go to Marvin or Meridian Pint or wherever else ridiculous prices reign. I want good beer for reasonable prices, because beer is cheap and easy to make and is best fresh.

James,

I recently paid 40 for 2008 Lost Abbey Angel's Share. I assure you it was worth it. Its not something I make a habit out of but old ale, imperial stouts, barley wines, lambics, etc take on some amazing qualities after a couple years in the cellar.

Garbage. But whatever. If beer drinkers want to shell out for that kind of marketing gimmick I'm not going to stop them. I won't think much of the micros doing it, but that capitalism, I guess.

There's nothing wrong with reserve lists for beer. However, beer has a strange obsession about being like or compared against wine. It's entirely possible to like wine, beer, and liqour for all of their own unique qualities. Mr. Boh is correct. Beer needs to be beer and be comfortable in its own skin.

the price tag for reserve lists do take one aback. luckily there are plenty of fresh cask and tap beers from which to choose for regular occasions--something wine culture doesn't have. I don't think this latest trend will ever threaten access to good beer. If anything it's just enriching the culture and mythology of beer. Why not celebrate it?

i love good beer, but there is no way i'm spending $20-60 for a single bottle. the wine-ification of beer culture is starting to grate.

I get chills reading the list of beers that will be there. I wonder how long the line will be to get in the door when CK opens.
