This Friday, March 2 at 5pm, the Black Squirrel is hosting a battle for the ages between Troegs Nugget Nectar and Bell’s Hopslam.
These two contenders will battle it out for hophead dominance. In one corner, an imperial American IPA at 10% ABV. In the other corner an imperial American amber/red ale at 7.5% ABV.
The battle goes down on the main floor of the Squirrel, so be there and bring your hop hats.
Leave in the comments who you think will win this battle. Do you have a favorite between these two?

I’ve conducted this battle more than once, and Hopslam always comes out on top for me. Definitely not a fair comparison though.
The real battle is Hopslam v. Double Trouble v. Armageddon in my mind.
I have preferred Double Trouble to Hopslam in the past and Armageddon to Double Trouble last weekend so by transitivity…
The real battle is Hopslam v. 120 minute v. Pliny the Younger in my mind.
Though that may not be fair to Hopslam and 120. And if any of the local pubs were to get a keg of Pliny, I think people would be camping out to get some.
I prefer Nugget (drinking one right now), but they aren’t even really similar. I almost always favor the dry, hoppy beers and (relatively) lower ABV is nice. I also bought a case+ of Hopslam once and burned myself out on it a bit.
