National Beer Dinner Month (no, this isn’t a real thing, but it sure seems like it in DC right now) rolls on relentlessly in DC, giving diners and craft beer fans alike a bevy of delicious menus to spend their holiday cash on. Hill Country Barbecue is getting in on this action by teaming up with Texas’s classic brewery, Shiner.
This dinner will take place on Tuesday, February 7 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Tickets are $45, which does not include tax and tip. Tickets can be purchased via calling Hill Country at 202-556-2044.
Special guest Jimmy Mauric, Shiner’s brewmaster, will oversee this beer dinner since Hill Country is the largest consumer of Shiner Beer this side of the Mississippi River.

Shoot. When I read the post’s title, my first thought was, “Oh, sweet! Apparently Hill Country is going to going to carry something more interesting than Shiner!”
I’ll just keep getting my Texas BBQ from Hill Country, and my craft beer from Iron Horse.
Sorry for that bit of typo-induced repetition. Sorry. Typo.
Agreed. I had the same thought. Why can’t they have a broader offering? I want to like them, but their beer selection is very subpar.
Anyone else feel similarly? I’m happy to pass feedback along to Hill Country. (I love Shiner every once in a while, but I agree with y’all.)
Yes, I definitely agree. I was really excited when I saw the beer dinner would be held at Hill Country, and very disappointed to see Shiner. I barely consider them “craft beer” and I don’t think any of their beer is good enough to warrant being paired with a dish for a beer dinner.
Bill, is there a way the new site can allow commenters to “+1″ or thumbs up other comments? That’d be some great functionality.
too bad they planned it on the same night as the homebrewers’ matchup… Hill Country has awesome food
Being from Texas, I am more excited than usual at Hill Country’s Dinner menu offerings. I’m sorry that the rest of you can’t appreciate Shiner the same way, but please shut up. It’s nice to finally be able to find it someplace around here. And how is it not craft? Maybe they make and bottle more now then ever before, but it didn’t start out as some creation from a big company, nor has it been bought out by one.
Obviously defining craft beer is an inexact science, which depends greatly on a person’s perspective. But I think it can be safely said that, among those who seek out quality beers, Shiner is most definitely NOT a craft beer. To me, Shiner is to TX as Yuengling is to PA. Now, if you are a Bud man, then, yes, Shiner and Lager probably qualify as craft beer.
+1 for wanting Hill Country to expand their options. I can’t imagine it would be that difficult to use 1-2 tap lines to rotate through some higher quality beers. But I have that same thought about countless places.
