As Terry Fife mentioned in our previous interview, IOTA has a few surprises up its sleeve now that it has expanded its tap selections. The first is that, starting tonight, IOTA will be offering growler fills on the beers it is pours.
Tonight is certainly a good night to head over to be one of the first to get one of these beautiful growler fills as IOTA will be tapping a fresh keg of Great Divide’s Fresh Hop Pale Ale!
Sorry for the lack of details but we wanted to get this out ASAP. More to come..

How exactly does this work? I was under the impression that bars couldn’t sell beer for off-premises use not in approved original packaging (i.e. bottles/cans). As I understood it, brew-pubs could fill growlers in Virginia thanks to a loophole in the ABC code about being both brewer and distributor.
Am I just totally mistaken? Could any bar I go to be filling me growlers? (I’m looking at you, Galaxy Hut)
We are looking into a more-comprehensive posting on growler fills in NoVA and hope to have that up within the next week or two.
I should clarify that what I have heard in the past is that, for bars, it has something to do with serving food. If I recall correctly, the Fairfax Whole Foods can fill growlers because it also has a restaurant. Likewise, Rustico in Alexandria (not sure about the new location) sells bottles to go.
