Last night’s Kentucky Derby Warm Up (Beer, Bourbon, & BBQ) event last night at The Big Hunt gave attendees their fill of great food, tasty bourbons, and delicious beers. According to Dave Coleman, Bar Manager at the Big Hunt, there is still some liquid deliciousness left in the kegs. Some of these beers can be found elsewhere around the city, some you cannot, and others won’t be available until next month.
The Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout and Kentucky Breakfast Stout at The Big Hunt may be the last available in the DC area for the time being. If you’ve heard of it in stores or bars elsewhere, please share the love.
The Holy Moses While Ale just hit stores & bars and will be generally available where you usually find Great Lakes Brewing Company beers on draft and in 6-packs. Stores that carry GLBC beers include: Rodman’s, Connecticut Avenue Wine & Liquor, De Vinos, D’Vines, Lee Irving Liquors, The Wine Specialist, and Magruder’s of Chevy Chase. The Lake Erie Monster is currently only available at The Big Hunt, but expect it everywhere else around mid-May.
The only bar besides The Big Hunt that has Allagash Confluence on draft is The Reef in Adams Morgan. You can find 750ml bottles at D’Vines, Schneider’s of Capitol Hill, Cleveland Park Liquor & Fine Wines, select Total Wine stores, and select Whole Foods locations.

My wife and I went there tonight to try the Canadian Breakfast Stout and the Lake Erie Monster. The Lake Erie was fantastic, but the CBS was skunked. Whether this was the fault of Founders or The Big Hunt is unclear, but it was absolutely disgusting. I’d never had Canadian Breakfast before, but I’ve enjoyed Kentucky Breakfast Stout several times over the last month at Bistro Le Bonne, so I’m pretty sure what we had was NOT brewery fresh. I should say that we also had a skunked Oberon at The Big Hunt a few weeks ago, so I’m inclined to think it’s the bad, dirty taps or the storage conditions. I have to say, they have some great beers, including Hop Head Rye, but this is the last time we get burned.
