We also had to stop by the Devils Backbone tent and tried their beers. I enjoyed their IPA (what can I say I like IPA still) and would like to see some of their kegs migrated into the city. Another excellent beer we got to try was the Williamsburg Aleworks Bourbon Barrel Amber. Unlike the usual dark stout or porter that would normally be paired with this flavor, our glasses were filled with a ruby red colored concoction with an unmistakable oak sweet burn of whiskey.

Just to be traditional we made sure we had some Avery Imperial Oktoberfest to go with our bratwurst and nakwurst lunches. I was also compelled to buy and eat an entire giant pretzel.

Brewers!

Probably one of the coolest parts of the event were all the local brewers running around. (Notice any similarities to your humble editor?)

All in all the event was pretty well run with lots of great volunteers (including Martin from DC Homebrewers tapping kegs and DCBeer’s very own Andrew pouring for Vintage 50/Mad Fox!) The beer selection was a nice mix of locals, East Coasters and West Coaster. There were even a few Belgians lying around. When it came to bottle necks, I would say the only real one I experienced was waiting in line for the German food. Perhaps they could give those guys a few more grills and pots and place them in a bunch of different parts of the festival to cut down on the lines next time.
