This year is the 10th annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest hosted by Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington. It will be held October 3. Not counting Savor or Brew at the Zoo, this is one of the closest ‘fests’ to the DC area and you can actually get there by a combination of metro and bus. There will be 30+ breweries, 4oz samples of the beer, food from local vendors.
$25 gets you beer samples, authentic Oktoberfest food, and a live German band. But you don’t have to pay if you don’t want to. You can volunteer!
Volunteers get a free tasting glass, 10 tasting tickets, a t-shirt and basically free admission for working a 3.5 hour shift pouring beers. Volunteer spots are first come first serve so act quick. See this website to sign up.

This is the same weekend as the World Beer Festival in Durham, NC. And wouldn’t you know that I have already volunteered for that one…which requires more travel. Damn!
The World Beer Fest is a lot of fun. I went a few years back and had a great time.
Just a friendly note, there is no more unlimited samples at this event. Attendees are given 10 drink tickets and thats all she wrote. Hardly seems worth the effort…
