We may have underestimated DC Beer drinkers!

A reader and fellow blogger took a trip to the Reef last night probably at around the same time I found myself walking home from the sold out limited seating Saint Ex event. Although he actually did get in to his event, he wasn’t too happy. I think we may have underestimated how popular these DC Beer Week events would be! I know that at the Black Squirrel event we were very happy to have sold out in the last few minutes before it started, but that also meant a super packed bar and a lot of hustling by the staff. Here’s a snippet of what Common Man had to say about the Rogue Oyster event:

I was drooling thinking about it early in the day. I was expecting a salty, shellfish extravaganza, but it turns out they were swimming into the deep end and couldn’t keep their heads above the water.

The lack of space, staffing and preperation is really just our well meaning bars and restaurants being caught off gaurd by the immense demand for DC Beer events. I don’t want to judge too harsh as it took a lot to organize everything with only a little lead time. Also not everyone likes to RSVP ahead of time–which means no one knows how popular the event will be until its too late. It’s unfortunate that things like this happen, but at the same time it’s exciting to see the potential in the DC Beer scene.

Seems like a good time to mention that DC Beer can help you organize your next event. Click here for more info…
