Bread and Brew

Bread and Brew, located at 20th and N Streets NW near Dupont Circle is a relatively new hidden gem in the DC Beer scene. The space opened up in January with an eco-cafe theme upstairs that features organic food and espresso drinks. But don’t be fooled, the brew doesn’t just refer to coffee sipping upstairs. The bar downstairs takes the brew even further with a cool tap list and a nice bottle lineup.

Artisan pizzas in this Green Certified restaurant accompany the no brainer happy hour that takes place everyday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Happy means a dollar off their draft beers featuring a number of craft brews. There is also a Thursday night doggy happy hour for neighborhood folks with dogs with some tie-in to Flying Dog. Their drafts include…

On draft they have Bells Kalamazoo Stout, Avery IPA, Brooklyn Lager, Allagash White, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Sam Seasonal (summer), and Sierra Nevada. (Actually when I visited the Arrogant Bastard Draft was waiting to be tapped again while they finished a keg of Hebrew’s Bitter Sweet Lenny’s IPA.) Craft cans and bottles include Clipper City Pale Ale, Oxford Organic Amber, Oxford Organic Raspberry Wheat, Flying Dog Pale Ale, Peak Organic Pale Ale, Bells Oberon, Abita Purple Haze, Abita Harvest Wit, Brooklyn Brown, Stone Levitation IPA, Stone Arrogant Bastard Oak Aged Dogfish Head 60 Minute, Dogfish Head Midas Touch, and Aventinus.
