Belga versus Beck: Tuesday’s Belgian Independence Day and only one has a petting zoo

Not to be outdone by the French a few days ago, the Belgians will be celebrating their own independence day on Tuesday. Lucky for us there are a few Belgian-leaning restaurants for us to visit and they are having special events.

Belga throws a July 21st bash with all day activities. First off, all draft beers will be half priced all day. Dinner will feature a traditional Belgian feast that should require reservations if they aren’t already booked up. Starting at 10:30 PM they will roll in the sound system and have DJ’s spinning late night. But that is not all, if you are like most of us and you take Belgian Independence Day off make sure you check out their PETTING ZOO on the back patio throughout the day. Nothing like a draft belgian beer while riding a llama. Here is a link to their events page…

Ok so Belga has got a llama, what is Brasserie Beck to do? Throw an expensive beer dinner of course! For $75you can dine on some of the best food in town at the Belgian beer list powerhouse. Dinner is 7 to 11 PM, details are a little sparse on their website, but distributors will be on hand showing off their newest Belgian imports. There is more info under events…

I was actually a little surprised that more places weren’t taking advantage of this holiday but since they are not, I will just point you in their direction anyway. Organize your own party at Granville Moore’s with their frites, mussels, and extensive Belgian beer list. Head over to the Brickskeller and see if they will pull out some rarities for you. You could also try Bohemian Caverns which always hosts a Belgian Beer happy hour on Tuesdays. And don’t forget the Saloon right down the street from Bohemian Caverns, they’ve got a great selection of Belgian bottles as well as board games!
