If there is one thing I can say about Granville Moore’s it’s that it is a bellwether for the DC Beer scene.Â
Young & Hungry discuss the doctor’s critical mass success by saying:
If my sources are correct, the waits at Granville Moore’s can border on the absurd. Would I wait for two hours to eat moules frites at this former doctor’s office on H Street NE? Â
Two hour waits for a beer bar in a part of town with no metro and a shady reputation! That’s pretty amazing. Granville Moore’s real problem is that they can not hold all of DC’s beer and moules enthusiasts at the same time. If anything what this says about our town is that we need more row houses to turn into cool beer bars with great beer lists. Maybe take a note from Ben’s Chili Bowl and open up a Moore’s Next Door.Â
There is a great opportunity for some of the other H Street bars to expand their beer lists to cater to the overflow crowds at Moore’s. Like Teddy, we all love a can of Natty Boh now and then, but I’d have no problem if The Pug next door stocked their fridge with a nice long list of American craft beer. Hell that bar is so cool, I’d be there once a week. When they do I’ll buy a bottle (or can) of craft for the first reader to beat me in Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots.
At the end of the day, it sucks that we have to wait so long to hang out at such a cool bar, but in our frustrations lies a clear signal that specialty beer lovers are out in DC in force and it’s only a matter of time before more places either adapt to our preferences or new places open up. Cheers to that.
