Check out Gordon Biersch tomorrow for the tapping of their Sommerbrau. Along with the new beer to taste there will also be free hors d’oeuvres and a fund raiser for the Special Olympics.
The Sommerbrau is said to be a light kolsch style with a hint of fruit–which sounds like a pretty safe summer drinker to me. Check it out from 6 to 8 pm at the downtown DC location (near Gallery place metro.)
Remember Gordon Biersch is all about the Lager styles, particularly with a German angle. They serve a lightly hopped Golden Export lager, an amber Marzen and a dark stoutlike Schwarzbeir. The Kolsch they are serving can be made as an ale, but it is probably a lager. The only ale they have is a Hefeweizen.
