Good Beer and BBQ (and Bourbon) this weekend at National Harbor

My eyes have been glazing over every time I hear about the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival at the National Harbor this Saturday–mainly because I suspected that half of the 40 beers they were advertising for this festival would be Bud, Budlight, Bud Ice, Bud Lime, etc. It turns out my fears were unfounded.

They’ve got Dogfish Head Raison D’etre and 90 Min IPA; Stone Brewing Company Levitation and Arrogant Bastard; Brewery Ommegang’s Hennepin, 3 Philosopher; Lancaster Brewing’s Hop Hog IPA. They’ve also got local guys like Flying Dog’s Doggie Style Pale Ale and Gonzo and Clipper City’s Pale Ale and Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. Just to drive this home… at 11:45AM they tap a freaking firkin from Clipper City.

They do have Heineken Light, which I guess is what I worried about, but they’ve also got Heineken Dark, haha–so go check that out.

The BBQ fest has a few other redeeming qualities that should be checked out like the seminar on grilling “Bourbon Cured BBQ Pork Belly Sliders” with Chef Teddy Folkman of Granville Moore’s (ok we’ve met our quota for mentioning this guy for the week) and the Ms. B-B-Cutie pageant. There is also a World BBQ Bean Eating Championship but I’d advise you not to partake if you are entering the Ms. B-B-Cutie pageant or looking to get the number of one of the contestants.

There is a $20 shuttle from Union Station as well as designated driver tickets for your BBQ loving responsible friends. See their website for the schedule and shuttle info as well as this entertaining write up at Draft…
