A few months ago, Granville Moore’s chef Teddy Folkman took on Bobby Flay in a Throwdown over who could make the best mussels and fries. Anyone who has tasted Folkman’s curry mayo while sipping some Vuuve at the bar’s salvaged barn wood countertop knows that Flay was in over his head. The event was hosted at the Argonaut, down the street from Granville Moore’s, and rumor has it Chimay Red was plentiful during the event. You can watch a recap of the match right here:
The belgian beer bar chef seems to have caught the eye of the Food Network and is now on the station’s Next Food Network Star. If you haven’t been to Granville Moore’s head there before this Sunday when you can catch the next episode of the show and get a pot of mussels to pair with their sizable Belgian beer list.
Washington Post’s Express has an interview with Folkman, and it ends with an entertaining exchange. Apparently he was misquoted in the interview that made it online. Folkman has told us that he loves belgian beer, but lives a little too far away to enjoy too many of them at Granville Moore’s. He also loves Victory’s Hop Devil and Dogfish Head 60 Minute. Express said he preferred National Bohemian, but really he’s just not above drinking it. I think that’s fair enough.
» EXPRESS: Well Granville Moores is like beer heaven, right?
» FOLKMAN: For me, its more like purgatory. Im a hop head, so I appreciate the craft of Belgian beer. (ed. natty boh part removed. haha)

Actually, I don’t like Natty Boh better, however I would pop by the Pug for one. I want to drink the Belgians and do but live to far and have to drive so I have to keep it safe. That’s the purgatory. I do love a good 60 Minute IPA or Victory Hop Devil. I was misquoted. Thank guys.
Thanks for the clarification. I will pull the quote and add your comment. I wasn’t trying to poke fun, but I did think that was a provacative interview. Anyway, I enjoy your food and think you guys are a pillar of the DC Beer and Food scene.
